July 12th 2019 - Wimbledon Tennis Allstars.

The Friday morning Activeace doubles training group turned their attention to competitive match play this Friday. Four doubles teams fought it out in a round robin competition for the prestigious inflatable Wimbledon Trophy.

Going into the third round as the only unbeaten team Clifford and Vanessa still knew they were vulnerable on total games won if they lost their last match. Talent, determination and guile however were in the end defeated by unwarrented self confidencs as they came through to take the title.

It was the first time the competition had been held by Activeace at the Bridgford Park training ground but it is hoped that the fixture may become an annual event and that with suitable sponsorship the prizes might be upgraded. It may even be possible to get a cup that doesn't need blowing up. "It was a great honour to win the trophy" said Clifford Fulford "but it's easily punctured during the engraving and has the tendancy to blow away in a stiff breeze. I did think of nailing it down but I hit the same problem the engraver had.". Clifford also paid tribute to his doubles partner Vanessa, his family and his team, without whom, he said, "None of this would have been possible".

The Activeace Allstar ladies plus one played a tennis tournament for the first time at Activeace Arena, in the prestigious Park Estate in Nottingham. The match was against a similiar team from Belvoir Valley Tennis Club.

The competition was played as nine 20 minute timed matches in a round robin. The final score line did not favour the Allstars as they lost all of their rubbers but they remained undaunted and are looking forward to the rematch.

After the tennis tournament both teams retired to the converted Edwardian Tea Room that is part of the attractive facilities at Activeace, for the prize giving ceremony, hot and cold drinks and biscuits.
